New Delhi: In connection with a fraud involving municipal jobs, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the homes of West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress politician Sujit Bose in Kolkata on Friday. There is strict security surrounding the areas where the raids are occurring. More information should become available soon.
When the ED apprehended Kolkata-based builder Ayan Sheel on March 19 for his involvement in a school jobs fraud, it revealed the municipal recruitment scam.During a raid at Ayan's Salt Lake headquarters, the ED claimed to have discovered OMR (response) sheets of candidates for a variety of positions in multiple towns. Bose was also questioned by the CBI in August of last year as part of their ongoing probe into purported anomalies in municipal hiring between 2014 and 2016.The Kolkata High Court rejected the state government's request for the CBI investigation into the purported municipal scandal to be stopped. The Kolkata High Court was informed by the CBI and ED that there was a connection between the scam involving civic body recruitment and the school education department job scandal, which resulted in the arrest of Partha Chatterjee, the former education minister.
Between 2010 and 2021, Bose presided over the South Dum Dum Municipality as vice chairman, a period that saw the hiring of close to 250 employees. In this instance, he is the first cabinet minister to be called upon.
