Three days before Pakistan's national elections, a terror attack on a police station in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulted in the deaths of at least ten people and the injuries of six more. Around three in the morning, terrorists using heavy weaponry stormed the police stations, catching the officers off guard and causing significant casualties. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has had a number of terror strikes in recent years.

According to a report from the injured people have been moved to DHQ Hospital. According to the authorities, the attackers used grenades and heavy gunfire coming from all angles to attack the police station. The terrorists were able to flee throughout the night under the cover of darkness, despite the police firing back.

To capture the fleeing militants, police have established a roped-off perimeter around the area and started a search and rescue operation. In addition, further troops have come to help the quick response unit that has already arrived on the area.

There has been an increase in terror strikes in Pakistan; in January of this year, there were at least 93 militant attacks that left 90 people dead and 135 injured. In addition, it has been stated that in January 2024, 15 people were kidnapped. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, a think tank located in Islamabad, released the information (PICSS).
