Manipur Violence: Following a confrontation between security forces and alleged Kuki militants in Manipur's Moreh district on Wednesday morning, it was discovered that a CDO officer had died. The police claim that after the militants fired shots and tossed bombs at a security post close to SBI Moreh, the security personnel replied.
48 hours after state forces detained two suspects in connection with the death of a police officer, suspected Kuki militants opened fire on a security forces post in the border town, according to authorities. Prior to this, on January 16, at midnight, the Manipur government declared a complete curfew in Tengnoupal following reports of a "disturbance of peace, disturbance of public harmony, and grave threat to human life and property".

The Tengnoupal District Magistrate's order, wherein the firing continued for over two hours,
declared that "government agencies involved in law and order enforcement and essential services" will be exempt from the curfew. According to a source, village volunteers and suspected Kuki militants engaged in gunfire in Kautruk village of Imphal West district on Tuesday night for over two hours. Officials stated that as central security troops arrived, the attackers ceased firing.
The police officer reported that weapons and ammunition had been found in the suspects' possession. Numerous ladies demonstrated in front of the Moreh police station, according to officials, calling for the "unconditional release" of the two suspects. The two were arrested, and Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT), the Churachandpur district's Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), and the Kangpokpi district's Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) have denounced this action.
In October of last year, the police had taken into custody Philip Khongsai and Hemokholal Mate, who were the primary suspects in the murder of Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) C Anand. Following their shots at the security guards' cars, the police pursued and apprehended them. According to the police, both were later brought before the Moreh Judicial Magistrate, after which they were placed in police custody for nine days.
