NEW DELHI: Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and India's dedication to a "independent" foreign policy, which he considered difficult in the current global environment, at the country's 75th Republic Day celebrations. As per Russia Today (RT), Putin expressed his admiration for the region's university students during a Thursday conversation on the occasion of 'Russian Student Day' in the Kaliningrad Region.

Putin highlighted the extraordinary speed attained during Prime Minister Modi's tenure and congratulated him for leading India's outstanding economic development and progress. He emphasized how Modi's leadership abilities are demonstrated by India's booming economy.

Guaranteeing India's Dependability:
Putin expressed trust in India's resolve and stressed that Russia can rely on India and its leadership, citing guarantees that New Delhi will refrain from engaging in damaging actions against them internationally. He praised the country's freedom to pursue an independent foreign policy under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, highlighting India's pursuit of one despite the challenges of the modern world.

Putin acknowledged Russia's significant investments in India while praising the latter's "Make in India" campaign. He revealed that Russia is among the biggest investors in India and expressed a desire to increase their holdings even more. Putin made special mention of Roseneft's substantial USD 23 billion investment in India, which covers a number of industries including infrastructure, gas, and oil.

Additionally, the Russian President praised India's vibrant and diverse cultural tapestry. He emphasized that Indian cinema is very popular in Russia and that it is shown on national television, which is evidence of the ongoing cultural interchange between the two countries.

Putin's comments follow high-level discussions between Russia and India, such as the recent visit to Russia by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, which took place between December 25 and December 29, of last year. Important agreements were inked during the visit, demonstrating the long-lasting connection between the two countries. These agreements included those regarding the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plants, medicines, healthcare cooperation, and foreign office consulting.
