Opening batsman Finn Allen of New Zealand took Shaheen Shah Afridi to task. Shaheen took Allen's heat on his leadership debut, allowing him to score 24 runs in an over. After grabbing a wicket in the first over, Shaheen looked far more assured in the third over of the innings, but Allen had a surprise in store for him.
With a half-volley, Allen was able to smash the attempted yorker over the mid-wicket boundary for a maximum after it was right under his bat. Allen waited for the ball to drive to the left of the mid-off zone on the next ball, which was a low full toss on the off side. Under duress at this point, Shaheen bowled a full ball at the shoes that was tickled through a short fine for another boundary.
Allen hit the fourth ball, an errant outswinger, to the left of mid-off once more. Shaheen still had two balls remaining, but he was searching for a hiding. Shaheen threw another overcooked yorker, which Allen tonked straight down the ground for a massive six, extending the nightmare over. Shaheen, fortunately, finished the over with a dot, but the over had already seen 24 runs conceded.
Not to be forgotten, Allen did end up out as bowler Abbas Afridi claimed his first-ever T20I wicket, but Kane Williamson was given two lives after being dropped by former captain Babar Azam at the beginning of the innings and then by Iftikhar Ahmed off the bowling of leg-spinner Usama Mir in the middle of the innings.
Muhammad Rizwan was observed exerting effort to get to the ball within the 30-yard mark. Although Rizwan is a wicketkeeper, he fielded during the first Twenty20 International match against New Zealand, allowing Azam Khan to take center stage as the gloveman. Rizwan is not accustomed to ground fielding, but Pakistan still has a ways to go before they can be considered the top fielding team in the world.
