VARANASI: In a dramatic development, the first puja was held at the 'Vyas Parivar Tehkhana' of the disputed Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi on Thursday, signaling a turning point in the ongoing legal struggle. There was an air of both excitement and expectancy after the Varanasi district court's decision to permit the Hindu side to pray at the disputed location. Around three in the morning, a priest performed the pooja and then the aarti.

Ashok Mutha Jain, the Commissioner of Police, and S Rajalingam, the District Magistrate of Varanasi, called a crucial meeting before to the puja ceremony starting. The meeting was held in a hall inside the Kashi Vishwanath Dham premises, and it lasted for around two hours. The district administration made important judgments during the debates to guarantee the smooth execution of the court's ruling.
Hindus Win in Court

Representing the Hindu faction, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, expressed delight and said that "the State government and district administration have made amendments to the barricading and daily puja has commenced in 'Vyas Parivar Tehkhana' in compliance with the Varanasi court's order." The Varanasi court's decision, which upholds the Hindu community's right to pray at the hallowed location, is viewed as a major victory.

Restoring the Vyas Family Legacy:
Shailendra Kumar Pathak Vyas filed a petition against the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee's control over the mosque, which led to the court's judgment. Shailendra's request held weight because he was the maternal grandson of priest Somnath Vyas. The case emphasized the historical significance of the location, where in 1993 officials closed the cellar, causing prayers to be suspended.

"The Hindu side is allowed to offer prayers at 'Vyas Ka Tehkhana', with the district administration tasked to facilitate arrangements within seven days," stated Jain. By granting Hindu worshippers unrestricted entry to the hallowed area, this edict honored the spiritual legacy of the Vyas family.
Legal Battle And Difficulties

But there are still obstacles in the way, so the legal drama is far from over. An extensive legal battle is expected as attorney for the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, Akhlaque Ahmad, has declared that he intends to challenge the court's ruling in higher judicial forums.

Concurrently, the dispute has become more intricate due to the intervention of the Allahabad High Court. There has been a plea contesting the Varanasi court's decision not to mandate a survey of the mosque complex's "wazukhana" area. In her petition, Rakhi Singh highlights the necessity of conducting a thorough assessment in order to determine the property's religious nature.
